Opinion Essay - Erik Giménez

Nowadays, we live in an open and free democratic society ruled by politicians and laws, which are not always fair. Although the consequences of breaking the law can be very harsh, young people act aggressively and even commit some serious crimes. Violent acts in young people have increased and some people argue that this may happen due to violent scenes shown on TV and video games.

Personally, I think that if young people did not watch these content, they would do it anyway. The real problem here is not about what they watch or not on the TV, what is really important is how these teenagers are educated. If they had been well-educated, they would not act aggressively, which can be solved with a better educational program. Every government that is in charge, change the educational program. This happens constantly every four years, maybe it is time for something to change.

It is clear to me that we should stop arguing about who is guilty and try to find a real solution for a real problem. Lots of people blame especially video games for being in some cases aggressively, which are the same ones that buy their kids plus eighteen rated games.

All in all, I have strong beliefs that videogames and TV, in general, are not the real problem. I play videogames and watch films myself, and I have not murdered anyone or robbed a bank, yet. For all these reasons I think that maybe we are doing something wrong and instead of fixing it we try to blame another one.
